Co-owner of Matthews Fuel Service, Nescopeck
Jeffrey D. Matthews, age 61, of Berwick died on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Jeff had been a resident of his home in North Centre Township for more than 14 years.
He was born on Wednesday, April 1, 1959, in Berwick, a son of the late David and Alberta (Michalek) Matthews. Throughout his younger years, Jeff attended the Berwick-area schools, and later graduated from Berwick High School in 1977.
On March 27, 2009, Jeff married his loving wife, the former Ruth Manning.
Jeff was co-owner of Matthews Fuel Service, Nescopeck, where he worked for 45 years.
Jeff was a member of Knapp Lodge F&AM, Berwick, and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He was also a lifetime member of Nescopeck Fire Company and Ranger Hose Company, Berwick. He enjoyed spending his time traveling with his wife and granddaughters.
Along with his parents, Jeff was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Petty.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 11 years, Ruth; daughter, Lisa Matthews of Seattle, Wash.; son, Christopher Matthews and fiancée Allyson Beaver of Mifflinville; two stepdaughters: Kimberly Kepner and Kelly Kepner, both of Bloomsburg; four granddaughters: Madelyn Kepner, Kaley Kepner, Mia Campbell, all of Bloomsburg, Addilyn Ridall of Mifflinville; and a brother-in-law, Bradley Petty of Berwick.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
