Born in Fall River on August 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Ernest L. Wood, Sr. and Jane (Yates) Wood.
Ernest was a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served in the Air Force as a radio operator with the 651st Communications Squadron. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He graduated from Somerset High School and after the war attended the Bradford Durfee College of Technology. He worked as a manager for Thom McAn shoe store for several years and later in life for the Attleboro School Department as a custodian for over 20 years until his retirement. Ernest was an avid sports fan. Baseball was his passion, especially his Red Sox!
Besides his devoted wife, Ernest is survived by his children, Timothy Wood and his fiancé Bernarda Polanco of Pawtucket, Heather Reed and her husband Bob of CO, Peter Wood and his wife Lisa of Attleboro and Shelagh Wood-Gouveia and her husband Scott of FL as well as one brother, Malcolm Wood. He was the loving grandfather of Alex, Siobhan, Benjamin and Ainsley. He was predeceased by his brother, John Wood. Ernest will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Private services were held on December 31, 2020 with a Mass if Christian Burial celebrated at St Dominic’s Catholic Church and a private burial service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne with full military honors.
