Born November 19, 1928, in Honea Path, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Daniel Brooks Carter and Eunice Virgil Young Carter Forister.
He owned DB Carter Used Cars and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church for 55 years. Paul and Joy loved to travel with friends, traveling to many parts of the world. Paul's passions, other than his family and church, were his lifelong friends, including his childhood friend, W. M. "Jr." Kay. Paul was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Joy Whitaker Carter; and children, Paul Daniel Carter, Jr., Cathy Griffin, Malcolm Brooks Carter, and Jack Carlton Wilson. Paul had six grandchildren, Blythe and Ryan Butts, Courtney and Robert Maddox, Paul D. Carter, III, Sarah and Starke Farley, Joy and Sean Colby, and Emily B. Carter. Paul was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Carson and Davis Butts, Jackson and Carter Maddox, Crosby Farley, and Lucy Colby.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Paula Carter Wilson; and his five brothers, Malcolm, Milford, Ray, Rex, and Jack Thomas "JT" Carter.
