Actor. He was born in Stralsund as son of a fisherman and discovered his love for the stage while working at the docks in Kiel. From 1915 on he played several small roles on stages in Dresden, Berlin and Lübeck. In 1958 he replaced a sick colleague at the Ohnsorg-Theatre in Hamburg. In the following decades he played the role of the grandfather with dry humor in more than 100 plays. He became known nationwide because of the broadcasting of the plays by NDR television. His most famous were "Pension Schöller", "Opa wird verkauft", "Tratsch im Treppenhaus" and "Mein Mann, der fährt zur See". He also played in a few movies and recorded a record with songs in north-german dialect. He left the Ohnsorg-Theatre in 1972 and worked from 1973 until 1975 at the St.- Pauli-Theatre. In 1976 he suffered a stoke from which he never fully recovered and died a year later.
