Charles Earnest (Chuck) McDowell, a resident of Gary, IN departed this life at Methodist Hospital-Southlake on December 14, 2020 at 88 years old. Charles was born July 12, 1932 in Camden, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Annie Mae McDowell, brother, Thomas (Frances) and sister, Lillie McDowell. Charles was the beloved husband of Nadine McDowell for 54 years; the father of Charles Anthony McDowell (Carrie) grandfather of Que of Anniston, AL; the step-father of Iris Yarbough, grandfather of Christopher Yarbough & great-grandfather of Chasity Yarbough of Merrillville, IN; Uncle to Erik (Melissa), Rodney, Malcolm, Zachary, Joy & Robbin.
He attended Knoxville College in Tennessee. Charles was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and served honorably during the Korean War. He retired from U.S. Steel and the City of Gary.
His commitment to Christ was realized in his long term membership at St. Timothy Community Church where he was active in the Men's Fellowship and July Birthday Group.
The family will honor Chuck's life with a memorial service at St. Timothy Community Church when it becomes safe for friends and family to gather. Final entombment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
