John M. DeHart, Sr., 64, of Glassboro. NJ, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 20, 2020. John was born in Bridgeton, NJ to James Van Doren and Lillian Mearns DeHart.

John married his wife, Donna in 1982. He adored her and together they had two children, whom he loved immensely. When God blessed him with grandchildren, he picked up the mantle of Grandfather with pride and loved on his grand kids like no other.

John was a man who foremost loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. John would always start his day with his daily Bible reading while his coffee was perking. The love he had for his Savior was so evident in his daily life and shined especially as he served as a Police Officer for 26 years in his hometown of Glassboro. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and so much more. He always put others before himself even if it was physically difficult for him. He relished the opportunity to help others whether with a kind word or putting in hard work. He loved his family and enjoyed getting together with them at family reunions or even just a quick trip to Dunkin Donuts for a coffee.

John used his many talents to serve as many people as he could including being head of the “kitchen crew” at church and serving at the Glassboro Police Senior Citizens dinner held every year in Glassboro, never missing one since his first. He would pour every ounce of his love into his many dishes including his “world famous” succotash.

Besides the many hours put into his church, John also loved hiking, boating, snowmobiling and hot rods. During his adult life, John climbed all 4,000 ft. mountains on the East Coast with his brother and sister-in-law with Mount Washington in New Hampshire being his favorite. Pittsburgh, New Hampshire was his favorite spot for snowmobiling, and he and Donna would take their kids there every year in January or February for two weeks at Timberland Lodge and Cabins. Lake George in New York was a favored vacation spot for camping, boating and swimming and in 23 years he never missed a Flemings Pumpkin Run Antique Car Show and Swamp Meet. John was the brightest light no matter what room he entered. If you moved in next door, he’d wait to see you come home and welcome you to the neighborhood. If you were brand new to church, he would move mountains to make sure you felt welcome. His presence will be missed in every aspect of life.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, Donna (nee Reach), he is survived by his mother, Lillian; his children, John M. Jr. and his fiancée Melissa, and Meghan DeHart-Brown (Joshua); his brothers, James (Pat) and Daniel (Sharon); 5 grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth, Joshua, Jr., Gabriel, Elias, and Gwendolyn; and several nieces and nephews. John was pre-deceased by his father, James (“Jim”) DeHart.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 9:00-11:00 AM in Hardingville Bible Church, 979 Whig Lane Rd., Monroeville, NJ 08343 followed by John’s funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in John’s memory to Hardingville Bible Church at the above address
