She was first married to W. J. Shirley in 1885 and one son born to them.

She was then married to J. L. Bailey in 1893.

Survivors included two daughters, Misses Annie Loys and Lela Leslie Bailey; three sons, P. K. Shirley of Wetumpka, Lieut. J. P. Bailey of the U.S. Air Service stationed at Monrovia, California, Mr. Chelon Bailey of Detroit, Michigan; one sister Mrs. J. D. Law of Equality; and one brother, Mr. E. B. Melton of Arcadia, Louisiana.

According to her son's obituary, she was the daughter of Susan Lovejoy and Thomas S. Melton. (The Wetumpka Herald, December 4, 1952)
