Canton - Geraldine “Gerri” Conard Cook, age 84, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 26, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was born July 17, 1936 to the late James and Ruby Conard.

Gerri, as she always preferred to be called, held a deep and enduring devotion to her family that extended from her parents, brothers, and sisters, to her children and grandchildren, and she lovingly and wholeheartedly committed her life to theirs. Gerri was actively engaged in the lives of her grandchildren who adoringly called her “Nana,” and she strived to encourage all of them to be themselves and to live their best life. Nothing brought her more happiness than being with her grandchildren.

Although Gerri had chosen not to pursue a college education following high school, that did not prevent her from indulging her intellectual interests. She maintained a beautiful open mind with a high degree of curiosity throughout her life, and was an avid reader of books. She carried her last name well as an excellent “cook,” loving to create delicious meals for anyone who would have a seat at her table. Gerri loved to laugh, entertain, and be with the people she loved.

Mrs. Cook was creatively talented and in addition to sharing her creations with family and friends, she also enjoyed participating in craft shows for many years. She was always generous and willing to help others, lending a hand to anyone who needed assistance. Gerri will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melita Cook Sorrells; granddaughter, Tamsen Powers Burleson; four brothers, Bob Conard, Charles Conard, Larry Conard, and Jim Conard; and a sister, Jeannie Stephenson.

Surviving are her loving husband of 68 years, Guy L. Cook; three children, Vicki Cook Powers, Guy Dean Cook, and Sherry Cook Burch; three grandchildren, Caleb Burch, Tori Powers Hughes, and Tessa Powers Hull; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Conard.

Private services will be held for Mrs. Cook. Also, a graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Cook will be held and announced at a later date.
