Norm was active in numerous civic groups in both Saginaw & Bay City, including United Commercial Travelers for 65 years and Knights of Columbus - 3rd & 4th degree – for 65 years. While in Saginaw, he served as president of the Saginaw Downtown Lions Club, then transferred his membership when he moved to Bay City. His 63 year membership set a record for longest Lions Club membership in the area. His civic involvement also included membership in the Saginaw, Bay County, and Midland Home Builders Associations. Boating was a passion for Norm. He started with a 16' fishing boat and eventually, over the years, ended up with a 57' Chris Craft Constellation. For 45+ years he enjoyed cruising the Great Lakes and being a member of the Great Lakes Cruising Club and the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club.
A love of travel led Norm and wife Gloria on many adventures, seeing all 50 states and traveling around the world twice – once east and once west. Foreign travel found them in countries too numerous to list. By the time he completed his traveling, he had visited all seven continents.
