Donald Charles Murray

Pleasant Hill, California

Donald Charles Murray peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 84 years old from Alzheimer's disease at The Parkview in Pleasanton, CA.

Donald was born in 1936 in Mexico City, Mexico to a Scottish father, Edwin Murray, and a Spanish-Mexican-American mother, Mary Eve Brooke. He grew up loving classical music and opera, and spoke English, Spanish, German, Italian and French.

Don graduated from Arizona State College Flagstaff (NAU) where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics, met and married his beloved bride Peggy, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was on the football team. He served in both the Arizona and California National Guard.

He successfully began his career with Procter & Gamble in Mexico City and rose through the ranks working in Cincinnati, Ohio, Toronto, Canada and Manila, Philippines. He then joined The Clorox Company of Oakland, California, earned an M.B.A. from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, and finished his career as a Clorox Group Vice-President and member of the management executive committee. He later served on The Northern Arizona University Foundation Board of Directors and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

When they retired Don and Peggy focused on the important "G's" in their lives: their three girls, their grandchildren, the gospel of Jesus Christ, genealogy and family history, gardening, good friends, globetrotting, his golf game, and giving time and service to others.

He loved serving in the Oakland Temple and sealed many people in eternal families, he gave hundreds of Patriarchal Blessings in Spanish, he and Peggy served a mission to the Nauvoo Illinois Temple, and Don took loving care of his wife during her final years.

Don’s generous heart, quick mind, friendliness, storytelling, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters Gwynne Cable (James), Browynn White (Daniel) and Ailene Long (Shane); 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Estrella Llergo Buendia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Peggy June Murray, his dear brother Guy Peter Kruse, and granddaughters Julia and Katherine Cable.

There will not be a funeral due to COVID concerns. A private family graveside service and interment will be held at Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette, CA. Funeral services provided by TraditionCare, Pleasant Hill, CA.
