Clara "Jo" Brown was born August 17th, 1937 in Meridian, Oklahoma to Bessie Maud (Hix) and Silas Taylor. She passed away Saturday, December 26th, 2020 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 9 days.

As a young girl she moved with her parents to Lone Oak community. Jo attended schools at Sayre graduating in 1955. After graduation she found employment at a bank in Amarillo, Texas and was later married Jack Brown on August 24, 1957. After their marriage they moved to Noble, Oklahoma where Jack taught school and Jo began cosmetology school in 1958. Besides a brief time in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jo and Jack remained in the Noble area until moving back to western Oklahoma close to 4 Corners and later to their home where they currently reside in November of 1974. Jo began her career as a beautician that spanned 58 years beginning Noble and continued when they moved Sayre. In 2009 when a fire consumed their house, one of Jo's biggest concerns was getting a shop up and operational at her house. Jo retired in January of 2019 only because of her injuries to her feet not allowing her to stand for lengthy periods of time.

Besides caring for her ladies, she enjoyed cooking for them as well as the community. She was an active member of the Buffalo Baptist Church and enjoyed their monthly birthday celebrations. Jo passed down her love of cooking and canning to her granddaughter, Hadleigh just recently teaching her to can and make jams, jellies, salsa and pickles. Jo was also known for blue ribbon pickled okra and wheat harvest bread at the county fair. She was a long-time member of New Liberty Home Demonstration Club and enjoyed gardening and providing neighbors and customer with her harvests. Jo also cherished her family and spending time with them.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Bill West and niece, Beverly West.

Jo is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; son, Kent Brown and wife, Carrie, Sayre, OK; daughter, Konna Summers and husband, Tony, Reydon, OK; 3 grandchildren, Marissa Brown and partner, Casey McBeath, Shreveport, LA, Hadleigh Summers and fiance', Payton Day, Sweetwater, OK and Devin Brown, Weatherford, OK; sister, Loudene West, Canyon, TX and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 1st, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lone Oak Cemetery officiated by Brother Ron Henning. Arrangements are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
