Raymond Eugene Simmons, 91, of Cumberland, formerly of Westernport, transitioned to his new home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Sincerely Yours Assisted Living.

Born on Black Thursday, October 24, 1929, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Henry and Naomi (Harrison) Simmons.

He was also preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Edna Young; his brother, James T. Simmons; and, a son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Mark R. Smith.
Mr. Simmons was retired from Westvaco, having worked in the Automatic Finishing Room.
He belonged to Central Assembly of God.
He loved working in his vegetable garden and tending to his flowers. He enjoyed his neighbors and sharing his fresh produce with them.. Mr. Simmons also perch fished at Savage River quite regularly.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. (Young) Simmons; his two daughters, Robin A. Smith, Warrenton, VA, and Michele R. Miller and husband Tim, Mt. Lake Park, MD; grandchildren, Leah R. Spink and husband Joe, Andrew Q. Smith and wife Netetia, Adam K. Miller and fiancé Caitlin, Lauren R. Smith, and Alysa M. Lee and husband Brandon; eight great grandchildren; siblings, E. Irene Snyder, Cumberland, Virginia E. Youngs, Carlisle, PA, and Gerald D. Simmons, Richmond, VA; and, several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday from noon until 1:30 PM.

Raymond was a 1947 graduate of Bruce High School.

He then served an enlistment in the U.S. Navy.

The funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Doug Seaman, officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hipsley, Rick Ware, Joe Spink, Andrew Smith, Adam Miller, Luke Spink, and Landen Spink.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of UPMC-Western Maryland., 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.

The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by Hospice, especially Kerri and Morgan. They were also grateful for the love and
respect shown to Raymond by Fay and Connie at Sincerely Yours Assisted Living. Becky Donnellan is a dear family friend who has shown so much care and concern for Mr. and Mrs. Simmons.
