H e was born in Elkins on June 12, 1957, a son of the late Cecil Paul Bennett and Hazel (White) Vandevender.
Paul was a logger by trade. He had worked for Bennett’s Logging Company in Durbin since he was 16 years old. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog and best friend, Buttons. He was an avid WVU Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Athlee (Lawson) Bennett of Fairmont, the couple married in 1976; two daughters, Tammie Bennett-Taylor and her husband Travis of Monongah and Bonnie Louise Swisher and her husband Rocky of Fairmont; six grandchildren, Bradly, Timber and Terry Swisher and Braylin Taylor, two step-grandsons, Jason and Josh Swisher; two great-grandchildren, Kylei and Kabella; and five step-greatgrandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Debbie Vandevender of Albion, Mich.; an aunt, Mabel Bennett; stepmother Jourleen; and a sister- in-law Kathleen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Vandevender, and his grandparents who raised him, Jesse and Mary Louise White.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10-12 p.m. on Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 12 p.m. with Pastor Drew Long and Pastor Larry Barkley officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont in the Sermon on the Mound section.
