Doris Ruth Wagner, 94, 722 Portland Ave., Huntingdon, died in her daughter’s arms Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, following an extended illness.

Born July 1, 1926, in Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Thomaszewski Malick, who resided in Mount Carmel. She was united in marriage to John I. Wagner May 24, 1948, in Mount Carmel. Mr. Wagner preceded her in death in 2005.

She is survived by children, Susan S. Simpson and husband, George, Huntingdon, John Wagner Jr. and wife, Denise, Pennsylvania Furnace, two granddaughters, Heather Spooner and husband, Daniel, and Amanda Galbraith and significant other, Todd Patterson, and five great-grandchildren, Elliot Spooner and Emmet Spooner, Wellsboro, Hart Whittaker, Kayla Whittaker and Alex Weigl, all of the Huntingdon area.

A sister, Mary Lou Komara, Newark, Delaware, and two nephews, Stephen of Virginia and Danny, Newark, Delaware, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and June Lee, Bloomsburg, and a nephew, Jim, and niece, Beth, also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor O’Brien.

Mrs. Wagner was of the Protestant faith.

She will be remembered as a loving daughter, housewife, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who, while caring for her family, enjoyed sewing, reading mystery novels, solving crossword puzzles, watching old movies and playing marathon games of Scrabble with anyone who would stay awake with her.

She also enjoyed flower gardening and sitting on her patio watching the wild birds while drinking a cup of tea. She especially loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying many visits, activities and adventures with all of them. Family and friends will recall that family was everything to Mrs. Wagner and that she accepted newcomers with open arms and a lot of love. She also loved freshly-picked strawberries and fresh peaches. She had a sharp, witty sense of humor that was often unexpected, which gave rise to some truly memorable occasions. She will be deeply and sorely missed by her entire family, but remembering Mrs. Wagner will keep her alive in their hearts.

There will be no public viewing and interment will be at the discretion of the family. In complying with her wishes, Mrs. Wagner will be cremated. Her urn will rest next to her husband’s urn that is currently adorned with Santa hats.
