Rock Hill, South Carolina - Mrs. Sara Hill Hughes, 97, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in Rock Hill, SC.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 11:00am in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Chapel. The private burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Rock Hill, SC.
Born in Smyrna, SC, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Hughes, Sr.; son, John B. Hughes, Jr.; grandson, Jason Hughes 86931720 ; parents, William Ernest Hill and Edith Castles Hill; and her brother, Robert William Hill. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Draughon's Business College in Columbia, SC and retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. She also served as a volunteer at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill for many years.
Sara (Nana) was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was known for her cooking skills and beautiful flower gardens. She always put the needs of others first. Her home was the family gathering place for virtually all occasions.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Devine of West Hills, CA; son, Richard Ernest "Ernie" Hughes (Johnsie) of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Richard Devine, Aimee Devine, and Justin Hughes; five great-grandchildren; nephew Mike Hill, and niece Holly Hill Rahn Aday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Community Care (Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House), PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1320 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
