With profound sadness we announce the passing of Beverly Sue Lindsey, our beloved Fairy Godmother and devoted friend, on December 23, 2020.
Beverly was born on June 14, 1930 in Muncie, Indiana, to Roland and Merkel Lindsey; she was an adored and cherished only child. She excelled both socially and academically throughout her childhood, despite the fact that their family moved frequently.

She received her nursing diploma from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis in 1952, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri in 1962, and a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Colorado in 1972. She completed the Air War College in 1983. Beverly entered the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant in November 1954 and served as a staff nurse for the following three years in Wiesbaden, Germany. She joined the Air Force Reserve in March 1961 and was assigned to the 36th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Mo. While there she served in several positions, including flight nurse, flight examiner, training officer, assistant chief nurse, and chief nurse. She also served with the 28th Medical services Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, as chief nurse. She was assigned to the Strategic Air Command in November 1980, becoming the first Reserve Nurse assigned to the command nurse of a major command. In April 1984 Beverly was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

Her military decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with hourglass device. She served as a military consultant in nursing administration to the Surgeon General, and was listed in Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in America, and Two Thousand Notable Americans.

In her civilian capacity, Beverly served as associate professor and associate chairperson of the department of nursing at Avila University, Kansas City, MO.

Beverly loved to cook and entertain, kept an immaculate and beautifully decorated home, was highly skilled with a paintbrush, and maintained relationships with friends around the globe. She filled her life (and those of her adoptive families) with art and adventure: painting lessons, cake decorating classes, Christmas symphonies, and extensive travel. Whether it was tickets to David Copperfield, Stars on Ice, the American Royal Rodeo, or Barnum & Bailey Circus, an outing with Beverly was always magical.

Beverly’s friends became her family, and of her many distinguished titles, Fairy Godmother was her favorite. She is lovingly remembered by the Huber and Richardson Families. Linda and Richard Huber; their two children, Matthew Huber, and Rachel (Ryan) Robinson; and grandchildren Bailey, Garrett, and Nelise Robinson. Joanne Richardson; her daughters Beverly Richardson Harn (Patrick) Terry; Judith Lee Richardson; Mary Richardson (Brian) Guhl; grandchildren Dr. Lindsey Harn (Gregg) Schroeder; Allison Harn (Kyle Spivey); Jeremy (Mariya) Harn; Wm. Robert Nelan; Austin Nelan; Austin (Victoria) Guhl; and great-grandchildren Isobel and Grant Schroeder; Ava & Lucas Harn.

Because of her devotion to the field of nursing and the military, Beverly would be honored to have donations made in her name to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
