Dustin J. "Oof" Scott, 27, of Parsons died at 11:54 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin from injuries received in a motorcycle accident Wednesday evening.
He was born Aug. 5, 1980, in Metairie, La., to James D. Scott Jr. and Debra Lynn (Johnson) Scott. At the age of 3, he moved to Parsons, where he grew up and attended schools. He was a 1998 graduate of Parsons High School, where he participated in football and wrestling and threw shot put and discuss in track and field. Following high school graduation, he attended one year at Wyoming Tech Institute in Laramie, Wy., where he studied auto body repair work.
For the past seven years, he worked at Wichita Southeast Kansas Transit, now Old Dominion, as a diesel mechanic.
He and Sarah D. Patterson were married July 19, 2003, in Parsons. She survives of the home.
He enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles and restoring Mopar cars. He also enjoyed doing mechanic work as a hobby. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Parsons.
Other survivors include two daughters, Taylor Marie Scott and Rylee Don Scott, both of the home; his mother and stepfather, Debra and Bill Abernathie of Parsons; a brother, Patrick Christian of Cherryville, N.C.; a sister, Andrea Scott of Parons; his paternal grandmother, Clara Scott of Parsons; his maternal grandparents, Linord and Armeda Johnson of Kansas City, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Scott, Jr., and his paternal grandfather, James D. Scott Sr.
