Jane Cynthelia Alexander was originally affianced by her father, Gen. Milton King Alexander to famed politician Stephen A. Douglas who, along with Abraham Lincoln, were friends of M. K. Alexander, staying in the Alexander home when they visited Paris, IL. Jane chose instead to marry Dr. John Tenbrook of Paris, IL.
