Enlisted from Irasburg VT Feb. 8, 1864 in Company D, 17th VT regiment under Captain Eaton. Company went from Burlington to Alexandria VA. First encounter was in the battle of the Wilderness, May 6, under Lieut. Col. Cummings, and from there they went to Spottsylvania, Petersburg and Cold Harbor. He was mustered out as a Corporal July 24, 1865 at the close of the war.
Enlistment shows occupation as "farmer" Age 40; height 5' 4", Grey eyes, light hair.

After marriage, lived in Burlington Vt, moved to Irasburg in 1854. Moved to Hinsdale NH in 1892.
