Timothy Dawson, 75, was born on May 5, 1945, in Sumter County, to the late Leget and Rebecca Waiters Dawson.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. Timothy accepted Christ as his Savior early in life and joined Hopewell Baptist Church. As a lifelong member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, he served faithfully on the usher board and as trustee. He recently lent his voice to the men's choir. On Nov. 1, 1969, Timothy was united in holy matrimony to the late Cleo P. Bowen. This union was blessed with three sons. As a devoted husband and loving father, he ensured his family was provided for, often working two jobs. Upon entering the work force, he was employed by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. He retired from AAFES after 33 years of dedicated service. He then began a second career with the former Sumter School District 2, retiring after 15 years of service with the district.

Timothy quietly departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, in the comfort of his earthly home.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three sons, Steven (Donna) Dawson of Lexington, Tyrone (Priscilla) Dawson of Lilburn, Georgia, and Derick Dawson of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Silas (Doris) Dawson of Dalzell; three sisters, Lillie Mae Edwards of Baltimore, Maryland, Bernice (Edward) Williams of Steelton, Pennsylvania, and Earlene Crocket of Newark, New Jersey; eight sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law; seven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 5865 Catchall Road, Dalzell.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hopewell Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 3285 Peach Orchard Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Richard Addison officiating.

The procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the home.

Services directed by the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
