Joan attended public school in the Spring Branch Independent School District before entering the workplace. Joan worked at Humble Oil & Refining Company where she met her husband Howard Nelson. Joan and Howard were married July 25, 1969 and remained married for 51 years until she passed away. In 1973, Joan was blessed with the ability to leave the workplace and become a full time housewife. Cooking was one of her joys and could cook a roast like no other. Joan was an animal lover. Her own dog "Bitsy" always received extra care and attention. She also had a cat named "Kitty" whom she rescued from the adjacent field. Joan trained him to sleep with her on her bed at night. Joan was an avid lover of the plumeria plant. She would share with others; a statement of her selflessness "Always Others First." That was Joan's motto in life. On December 20, 2020, Joan Louise Nelson passed away.
