Jerry Randall Parker, age 80, lifelong resident of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his residence with his family at his side.
Jerry was born in Anderson on August 13, 1940. On February 14, 1960, he married Beverly Ruth (Shields) Parker and they shared 60 years of marriage.
Jerry was a member of Anderson First Church of the Nazarene, the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #77 FA&M, and Scottish Rite. He was very active in the AFC Nazarene Lighthouse fellowship and church ministries. Jerry became a Mason in 1977 at Mt Moriah #77 and was an active member for the rest of his life. In 1995 he became the Worshipful Master at Mt Moriah #77 and that same year had the honor of opening the Grand Lodge.
Jerry loved his community and had a passion for serving others; including Madison County REACT, Emergency Management, Communication Advisor for Anderson Auxiliary Police, volunteering at numerous Anderson Community School events, and was Precinct Committee representative for the Republican party.
Most importantly Jerry loved the Lord Jesus Christ and his family. He was a proud father of two daughters, Trudi and Judi, and a wonderful husband to his wife Beverly. Jerry met Beverly in high school and married her two years after graduation. He attended one year of Business College and was then employed for two years as an IBM operator. In 1964 he began working for Guide Division of General Motors as an assembler and was quickly promoted to supervisor in June of 1966. He was a quality control supervisor for the last nine years of his employment with Guide and retired in 1996. Jerry loved sports of all kinds, chess and college basketball being his favorites. He loved Indiana University basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Beverly; siblings, Charles (Brenda) Parker of Anderson, Neldra (Gary) Boling of Jensen Beach, FL; sister-in-law Jan Parker of Selma; two daughters, Trudi (John) Hatter of Lafayette and Judi (Kirk) Shafer of Selma; five grandchildren, Jordan Ketring, Bridget Hatter, Kylee Smithson, Breanna O’Neill, and Samantha Hatter; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Margaret Parker; father, Scott William Parker; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Larry (Joyce) Parker and Michael Parker.
Funeral service celebrating Jerry's life will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 South Rangeline Road, Anderson, with Pastor Joe Darostino, III and Pastor Gary Cable of Anderson First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
