Konrad Lynn Butler, 73 of Pittsfield passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Konrad was born on August 12, 1942 in Detroit, IL, a son of the late Leo Butler and Genevieve Daniels Seyl . He married Janet Butler on April 3, 1961 in Pittsfield; she survives.

At the age of 17, Konrad joined the United States Army, retiring from the service after 36 years of service. Throughout his Army career Konrad served three tours in Germany and was awarded a bronze star service medal for serving during the Vietnam Era. Konrad was an Army off road maintenance supervisor and heavy equipment trainer for recruits and a 1st sergeant drill instructor for several years. After his retirement Konrad worked civil service as a weapons specialist for many years. While serving in the Army Konrad and his family enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, visiting many historical sites. Charities to United States veterans were very important to him.

Konrad never met a stranger and loved to visit with folks. He was always tinkering and fixing things and was always willing to help others fix or make things. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and his dogs, Gracie, Toby and Bear.

Konrad is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Gary Butler of Sibley, MO; Darren Butler of Lebanon, MO; four daughters, Ann Butler and Cheryl Butler both of Pittsfield; Christine Zsapka of Ft. Worth, TX; Connie Cook of Eldridge, MO; sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Additional survivors are brothers; Roger, Gary, Tracy and Allen Butler all of Pittsfield; two sisters, Marcie Baughman and Mona Seyl; numerous nieces and nephews.

Konrad was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Cale Shelton, brother, Murray Butler and a sister, Tab Frey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Rob Barringer officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and military funeral honor guard following the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12-noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to be made to the Great River Honor Flight. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.nieburfh.com. The Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield has been entrusted with the service.
