Richard Carroll McConnell, age 90 of Purcell, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Sunset Estates Nursing Home. He was born November 22, 1930 in Roosevelt, OK, the son of Carroll George McConnell and Phoebe Lodacie (Wheeler) McConnell. Richard was raised in Roosevelt and attended school there, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1948. He attended Oklahoma University and Southwest Oklahoma State University, before answering the call to service and joining the United States Navy. Richard proudly served his country on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Once back home, Richard returned to school, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor’s Degree In Accounting. In January of 1957, Richard starting working for the Standard Oil and Gas Company, later known as Pan American Petroleum Company in OKC. In 1965, the name was changed again to AMOCO, and Richard was transferred to Tulsa, before accepting a transfer to Canada. On May 22, 1971, Richard married the love of his life, Annie Christine Boyer in Tulsa. They transferred to Houston where Richard remained until his retirement. Richard and Annie found their way back to Oklahoma, settling in Purcell in 1989. Richard was a man of great faith and active member of First Baptist Church in Purcell. He was a Perpetual Member of the Purcell Masonic Lodge #27, the Guthrie Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of the Shriners of North America, the American Legion, and life member of the USS Essex Association and the US Navy Photographic Squadron Association. He will be dearly missed!
Richard was preceded in death by: his wife, Annie McConnell; his parents, Carroll and Phoebe McConnell and half brother, Edward Lewis.
Richard is survived by his brother-in-law, Don Boyer of Purcell and dear friends, Richard and Charlotte Holleman and family.
