JAMES HARROP YEAGER, 85, died Friday night, May 27, 1988. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on February 15, 1903, he was the eldest of the six children of James Nicholas and Mary Harrop Yeager. When the Yeager family moved to Houston in 1923, James went to work for Cray & Wildmerding, the first New York Stock Exchange firm licensed to do business in Texas. He worked continuously for the same firm through a number of mergers, which is now Smith Barney. He retired in 1968 after 45 years as one of Houston's leading Security Brokers. He and his wife, Blanche, moved to the valley for 10 years and then returned to Houston. Blanche died in 1984. He is survived by his brothers, Benjamin B., Francis S., and John G. Yeager, all of Houston; sister, Rosemary Tubman, Aptos, California, his niece, Sarah Yeager Powell and nephew, Cameron Yeager, children of his deceased brother, Clement Yeager, as well as several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews. Also survived by Susan Smith Johnson, a great-niece of Blanche Yeager, who was raised by James and Blanche as their daughter. A Christian wake service will be held Sunday, 5:30 p.m., Earthman Bellaire Chapel, Mass of Christian burial: 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 30, 1988, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood, with Rev. Gerard E, Siebold, celebrant. Interment: Garden of Gethsemane. Pallbearers: Ben, Tim, Paul, Scott, Mike Yeager and Ben Powell. In lieu of usual remembrances the family suggests memorial gifts to University of St. Thomas Library, 3812 Montrose, Houston, 77006 or the James Yeager Scholarship Fund, St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial Dr., Houston, 77007
