He was born November 22, 1929 in Shelby County, Alabama, son of Sylvester Cates and Ruth Butler Cates.
He was a fabricator.
Surviving are his Son, Ken (Janet) Cates; Daughter, Karen (Rick) Green; Grandsons, Michael, Jeff and Chris Cates, Michael Channin, Jr.; Granddaughter, Michelle Lowery; 8 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Elouise R. Cates; Father, Sylvester Evans Cates; Mother, Ruth Inez Butler Cates.
Friends will be received Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home.
Services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Tew and Rev. Royce Ellison officiating.
Entombment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama.
