Martha Emily White, the daughter of Helmuth and Ida (Hild) Boettcher, was born on June 2, 1929 in Storm Lake, Iowa. As an infant, Mardie was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. She was later confirmed at the same church.

Growing up, Mardie attended grade school at Zion Lutheran and later attended high school in Newell where she graduated in 1947. After receiving her high school diploma, Mardie went on to work for the Bell Telephone Company.

On February 28, 1949, Mardie was united in marriage to Lyle White at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with four children: Steven, Rebecca, Diane, and Jennifer. After she was married, Mardie worked as a full-time farm wife and spent over 30 years as a faithful employee of Newell Good Samaritan Society.

Mardie was active in her community through being a member of the Newell Women’s Federated Club, Red Hat Society, and Allee Mansion volunteer. She was also a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. Her involvement in the church included holding various offices of the Ladies Aid and Zone LWML President.

In her free time, Mardie enjoyed baking, sewing, and playing cards. She was famous for her rhubarb pie, brownies, and yardsticks; she never missed an opportunity to share her baked goodies with her family. Mardie was in many card clubs throughout the years and loved to get together with her friends. She also was a dedicated Mustang fan and followed the Newell-Fonda Mustangs by listening to their games on the radio.

Family was important to Mardie and she enjoyed receiving visits from her grandchildren at the nursing home. She also always looked forward to the annual family reunion at Camp Okoboji.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Steven White of Storm Lake, Iowa; Rebecca White of Elizabeth, Illinois; Diane (Mike) Overmohle of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jennifer (Tony) Heisterkamp of Akron, Iowa; brother, Lloyd (Nora) Boettcher of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister, Carol (Ed) Maas of New Mexico; grandchildren: Doug (Allison) White, Tamara (Greg) Marsh, Jeremy (Lorena) Holliday, Kristi (Chad) Kerkenbush, Jessica (Brett) Laabs, Joshua (Abbey) Overmohle, Jason (Charissa) Overmohle, Justin (Lynn) Overmohle, Jon (Heidi) Heisterkamp, Emily (Chris) Colt, Katie (Christine) Morgan; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Witter of Newell, Iowa; extended family and friends.
