Gary Elijah Riley was born on March 4, 1945 in Pensacola, FL to the union of his parents Elijah Riley and Nancy Benson Riley and was called to rest on Saturday December 19, 2020.
Gary graduated from Booker T. Washington Senior High School, class of 1963. He attended Florida A & M University and began his career as a substitute teacher with the Escambia County Board of Education. He also served his community as an Escambia County Transit System driver. He retired after extensive service with Gulf Power. He was also a beloved member of the Century Florida Town Council where he served his community with distinction for 20 years. He always wanted to make places better than he left it.
Gary received Christ at an early age. He served loyally and with integrity on the Ministerial Staff of Bethel Salone Church of God in Christ since 1982. Elder Riley wore many hats over the years. He served in the Choir, as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Youth Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Trustee Board Member. And Pensacola 1 District Treasurer. He served faithfully under the late Bishop Elijah Banks, the late Superintendent Gene S. Banks, and also Elder Michael Banks. He was respected for his sincerity, calm demeanor, and love for people. He will be sincerely missed and will be remembered as a gentle and humble servant who lived out the meaning of love the Lord thy God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.
Gary was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Johnson March 2, 1985. He was a loving husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his Father Elijah Riley (Gladys), Mother Nancy Benson Jenkins (Timothy, affectionately known as, "Big Tim") his Sisters Elizabeth Smiley, Lucile Kelly, Doris Riley Johnson and Deloris Williams, his Brother Eddie Louis Riley, and 2 Grand Kids _(add names)_.
He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Dorothy Riley, his sons Michael (Brenda) Riley, of Pensacola, FL, Richard (Crystal) Riley of ____?_____TX, Montress (Shelita) Johnson of Pensacola, FL, his daughters Kendra Riley of Pensacola, Fl, and Tammy Johnson (Timmith Bush) of Century, FL. Six Brothers, Timothy (Yolanda) Jenkins, Jr., Carl (Shirley) Jenkins all of Pensacola, FL, Terry (Betty) Jenkins, West Palm Beach, FL and Steve (Claudia) Jenkins, Augusta, GA., Henry (Rose) Henderson, Washington, DC, and Dwight Johnson, Ft, Lauderdale, FL. Four Sisters, Linda (Derick) Hunter, Phyllis J. King both of Pensacola, FL, Betty North, Lake Elsinore, CA, and LeVette (Jerry) McKnight, O'Fallon, a, Step Brother Ezekiel Feagin of Pensacola, FL, 17 grand children, 4 great grand children, 2 god daughters, and a host of nieces and nephews.
