Betty S. Byrd, 88, of Princeton moved to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 17, 2020. Mrs. Byrd was a graduate of Matoaka High School where she was a cheerleader. She was also a graduate of Concord College plus graduate hours at WVU. She was a teacher at Mercer Elementary School in Princeton for 20 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority and a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and reading. She was a member of the Princeton Health and Fitness Center.

She was born at home March 4, 1932 in Matoaka to the late Oscar "Raymond" Shrewsbury (1901-1973) and Loma Frances McComas-Shrewsbury (1907-1984). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Stephen Ted Byrd (Deceased); her brother, James "Clyde" Shrewsbury (1924-2015) & wife Ruby Lee Hodge-Shrewsbury (1928-2005); and her sister, Pauline Frances Shrewsbury-Farley (1927-1993) & husband Mason K. Farley (1926-2013).

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Ted Byrd (B. 1929) whom she married on May 18, 1951 in Matoaka, Mercer County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Mercer County, WV, 1951, Page 115, Line 40, Application Date: May 15, 1951); daughter, Susan Byrd-Yurkiewicz of Princeton; brother, Joseph A. Shrewsbury of Bealeton, VA; sisters, Evelyn Shrewsbury-Handley of Johnson City, TN, and Muriel Shrewsbury-Allen of Princeton; and grandchildren, Zachary Byrd & wife Kathy Byrd, Nicolette Yurkiewicz, and Jessica Yurkiewicz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 1116 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24704 or Appalachian Teen Challenge, 1651 Unity Road, Princeton, WV 24740. Services were private.
