Shannon X Smith, 96, of Hammon, Oklahoma was born on November 22, 1924 in Moorewood, Oklahoma. He is the son of Ellis X and Vina (Sketchley) Smith. Shannon passed on December 19, 2020 at his residence.
Shannon served his country proudly in the United States Navy after graduating from high school. He married, Jeanelda Joe Moore on May 15, 1951 in Cordell, Oklahoma.
He enjoyed farming, grease mechanics, road trips and traveling a bit. Shannon worked hard all his life farming and ranching but more than anything he did he loved spending quality time with his family and friends. Shannon’s wife, Jeanelda benefited from sixty-nine and half years of driving lessons, included was the admonition to not use the brakes or the turn signal for fear that they would wear out, and that the horn was only to be used to call cattle, only.
Shannon was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Custer City for seventy-five years. He was also a member of the Hammon United Methodist Church.
Due to Covid-19 the family will be having private family services but would like to invite you to watch the services live on the Martin-Dugger Funeral Home Facebook page, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Rev. Anthony Pennington will officiate, Amanda Lockwood will assist. Interment will be at Dewey Cemetery, Dewey, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Cherishing his memory is his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Jeanelda, of the home; one son, Scott G. Smith and his wife, Teresa of Hammon, Oklahoma; one daughter Shawn Walters and her husband, Wayne of Canute, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Brian Smith of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Clint Smith of Howard, Kansas, Kelsey Walters of Moldova, Clay Walters of Canute, Oklahoma, Kayla Walters of Tulsa, Oklahoma; twelve, great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Nistler of Strong City, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Leah Smith of Leedey, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Kenney Moore of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Don Moore of Cresson, Texas.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly Jo Smith; grandson, Shane Smith; his parents; and one brother, Joe Smith.
