John F. Looney of Chatsworth, NJ died peacefully at home on March 28, 2014. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorthea (nee Dunkin), their daughter, Kathy Reynolds, and his brothers George, Charles and Howard. He is survived by his sister, Colette Haller. John was the loving father of Kathy and Jeff Reynolds, Kris and Chuck Harris, Betsy and Neal Hughes, Tim and Linda Looney, and Terry and Bob Meiers. He was Gramps to seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Born in Oswego, NY, John served in the US Navy during World War II. He earned his Master's Degree from the University of Notre Dame. John had an active career as a Human Resource manager. His passion for the importance of education led him to teach and later become a member of the Woodland Township Board of Education. John recently retired from many years of service as Woodland Township's representative on the Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education. Wherever John and Dorthea lived, they made their home the gathering place for family and friends. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 2nd at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, 40 Jackson Road, Medford, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "John F. Looney Scholarship Fund" in care of Lechner Funeral Home, 24 N. Main, Medford, NJ, 08055.
