Betty Jean was born March 23, 1928, in Dayton, MO, the daughter of John and Jessie (Wise) Smith.She was married to Coral "Carl" Conley, Jr. in 1947 upon his return from World War II. Betty Jean had worked for 25 years at Macy's and Dillards Department Stores. Betty Jean and Carl were baptized and received into the Catholic Church by their son, Bishop James Douglas Conley in 1991. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, bingo player and lover of her "Happy Hour" that always included 2 Bud Lights. Betty Jean was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its Spirit Movers group. She was truly a social person who loved her friends and most of all her family. She was known for her bright smile and her “sweet” disposition. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 59 years, Carl on November 7, 2006. Betty Jean is survived by two children, Bishop James Conley of Lincoln, NE, Susan Kathleen (Conley) Atkins and her husband, Daniel Richard, of Edgerton, KS, two grandchildren, Kyle Thomas Atkins and Kaitlyn Conley Breeden, and her husband, Robert Joseph, a great grandson, James Robert Breeden and great grandson #2 due at the end of January.
