Company B, 28th Virginia Infantry, 5th Brigade, Longstreet's Division, Potomac District, Dept. of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence: Valley of Sinking Creek, Craig County, VA.; 33 year-old physician.
Enlisted for 1 year's service on 5/15/1861 at Craig Court House, VA., he traveled 52 miles to Lynchburg, VA., where on 5/18/1861 he was commissioned into Captain N.C. Wilson's Company "Craig Rifles", 28th Infantry as a Junior 2nd Lieutenant. (This company subsequently became Company B, 28th Virginia Infantry.)
Present on all Rolls until Absent, Sick on 30-day Medical Furlough since 12/11/1861; resigned on 2/19/1862 due to rheumatism contracted in winter.
On 4/17/1862, he requested for a commission allowing him a horse as he had recovered sufficiently enough to be able ride a horse well, suggesting a Militia or the CSA QuarterMaster Dept.; commissioned 1st Lieutenant in 189th Virginia Militia.
