John Henry Akins (70), entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at his home. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Deacon John Akins, lifelong resident of Guyton, GA, was called home to glory at his residence on May 12, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. John was a devoted husband and father.

He enjoyed playing the drums, listening to jazz music, and singing in the male chorus at Macedonia Missionary Baptist church where he served faithfully.

He is a graduate of Central High School (1968), and a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the Army and Army National Guard. Following his military service, he supported his family as a machine operator until his retirement from Georgia Pacific Gypsum in 2000.

John leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elizabeth and three sons Darrix (Theresa), Shawn (Tonya), and Marcus, eight grandchildren, two sisters Juanita Harden and Sue Carol Gaines (Edwin Gaines), sisters-in-law Ronnie Akins, Willie Mae Akins, Shirley Heyward, Debra Edwards, JoAnn Flournoy, Lisa Prescott, a brother-in law Cornelius Edwards, Jr., a god-daughter (Olivia Bacon), two god-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Dollie Akins; brothers Isaiah, Joseph, and Edward; sisters Mable (Lewis Hunter), Connie, and Reba (Henry McCloud). Brother-in-law Lewis Harden.
