David Allen Pickett, 61 of Taylorville, passed away at 5:25pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on March 10, 1959 in Taylorville, the son of James D. and Mary Gean (Andrews) Pickett. He married Deborah Ann Reo on August 14, 1982 in Mt. Prospect.
Dave graduated from Taylorville High School in 1977 and earned degrees in accounting and computer science from Western Illinois University, graduating in 1981. After 2 decades of working for multiple companies, Dave used his skills as an entrepreneur to start his own consulting firm, Vision Consulting. Dave will be forever remembered for the way he used his entrepreneurial and photography skills, and his love of sharing with others, to start his sports photography business, Fun Photo. What started as a hobby 20 years ago, turned into a full-time business of photographing youth sporting events, school pictures, and other special occasions. Dave’s passion of photography brough smiles to countless people across Central Illinois. Through the thousands of sporting events he attended, and the countless photos he took, he documented 20 years of memories for youth athletes around the area.
Dave had a true love for fishing. Whether it was with his dad, sons, or other family and friends he found peace at the lake. He had a skill of utilizing insects as bait, even if it meant catching a locust out of the air, placing it on the hook, and immediately catching another keeper. He loved sports and was a diehard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and before they left, the Rams. Dave had a talent of cooking and loved to entertain his friends and family. Baking cookies was a long-time joy of his and he shared his treats with all around him. Most of all, Dave had a love of family and friends and making those around him happy. His wonderful personality and smile will always be remembered. His family, especially his grandchildren, were the center of his life.
He is survived by his wife: Debbie Pickett of Taylorville; sons: Mark Pickett (Caraline) of Lake Forest and J.D. Pickett (Amanda) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Libbey, Bennett, Jamison, Charlotte, Connor, and another expected soon; parents: James and Mary Gean Pickett of Leesburg, Florida; siblings: Linda Westbrook (William) and Thomas Pickett, both of Taylorville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: James & Hattie Pickett and Henry & Myrtle Andrews; and several aunts, uncles, and a cousin.
Mr. Pickett will be cremated, and due to the pandemic, no services will be held at this time. Memorials in his honor may be left to the Taylorville Tornado Sports Boosters or any local youth sports organization. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
