Joy Lyons Groves Wolfe, 77, of Ravenswood, formerly of Rainelle and Quinwood, died November 18, 2006, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born October 14, 1929, in Hartland, to the late J. S. Lyons and Etta Burnside Lyons. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Wolfe attended the North United Methodist Church, Ravenswood. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Ravenswood, the Ravenswood CB Club, SOAR, the Ravenswood River Rats, and she belonged to Bridges of Hope Cancer Support, Parkersburg.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Wolfe of Ravenswood; son, Rusty (Julie) Groves of Moyock, N.C.; two daughters, Barbara Surbaugh Bruce of High Point, N.C., and Sue Ann Grossl (Charles) Adkins of Savannah, Ga.; three brothers, Robert (Anita) Lyons of Linden, N.C., Tom (Bonnie) Lyons of Parkersburg, and Bill Lyons of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Virginia Asbury of Boone County, and Mary Kay Staats of Ravenswood; six grandchildren, Jay Surbaugh of Falls Church, Va., Lisa Jan Surbaugh McGuffey Hill of Lebanon, Ohio, April Allison Surbaugh Hernandez of Pleasant Garden, N.C., Janie Grossl Agee of Nicholasville, Ky., Bryan Groves of Virginia Beach, VA., and Pamela Groves of Moorehead City, Ky.; nine great-grandchildren, Haley Surbaugh, Andrew McGuffey, Allison Hill, Cody Hill, Gabe Hernandez, Nate Hernandez, Jonathan Agee, Madison Agee, and Ian Groves; stepchildren, James (Rose) Wolfe of Poolsville, Md., Jerry (Angie) Wolfe of Woodstock, Ga., Starlyn (Herb) Nunn of Marietta, Ohio, Terri (Ed) Tucker of Columbus, Ohio; 10 step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Joy sends a special thanks to her good friends, Dr. Nik Shah and staff, the nurses of the infusion center, and the Ravenswood River Rats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, an infant sister, Barbara, Shirley Miller, and Pat Lyke.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Michael Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood.
Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oncology Department of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
