"Edgar S. Porter, 87, of 740 Stehman Church Road, Washington Boro, died Monday at Lancaster Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Porter was a dairy, beef and tobacco farmer in Manor Township. He also was a carpenter for Robert Snyder and Jacob Habecker, retiring in 1979. He previously had worked at Schmid Brothers Machine Shop in Lancaster. He was a member of Stehman Memorial United Methodist Church, Millersville, and Wycliffe Associates Bible Translators. He was a 4-H leader. Born in Waterburg, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence L. and Mary Elizabeth Beach Porter. He was married 63 years on June 26 to Ruth E. Karr Porter. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Glenn L. of Waxhaw, NC, Kenneth E. of State College and Gary B. of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Linda K. married to Thomas J. Nissley of Reading; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Schmid of Lancaster."
