Robert "Bob" E. Sweet passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 19, 2019 at his home in Mesa, AZ. Bob was born in Colwell, IA on June 16, 1930 to Roy and Tracie (Zimmer) Sweet. He graduated from Story City High School and the University of Iowa, and served in the U. S. Army Finance Corp at Ft. Riley, KS as 2nd and 1st Lieutenant. He met Jo Ann Winegardner at the University of Iowa, they were married in 1951 and made their home in Story City, IA. In Story City, he was president of Story County State Bank, he served on the Story City School Board, Hospital Board, and the Greater Community Congress where he was on the founding committee of the Scandinavian Days Celebration. He also was the Explorer Scout leader for many years. He and Jo Ann retired to Mesa, AZ and enjoyed more than 68 years of marriage. Bob is survived by his wife Jo Ann; one son David (Marsha) Sweet of Story City, IA; one daughter Barbara (Craig) Gesme of Des Moines, IA; four grandsons Shaun Gesme, Paul Gesme, Jesse (Yi-Ling) Sweet, and Ben (Laura) Sweet; and one great-grandson Ryan Robert Sweet; and one sister Susan (Dick) Dees. His family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and his caretaker, Nancy Lippincott for all of her love and support during Robert's final days.
