Randall Ellard “Red” Murff, age 101, of Sylva, North Carolina, passed away December 16, 2020. Jackson County’s oldest and most decorated war veteran, Randall was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a Bombardier/Navigator flying 67 missions. He and his wife retired to North Carolina from Jackson, MS where he had a long career in auto and truck sales

Randall was an active member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church and he enjoyed his time with friends at the Jackson County Senior Center. He was always known for his ready smile and kind heart to everyone. For the past few years, he has been a resident of Morningstar Assisted Living Facility and was grateful for those who cared for him there.

Mr. Murff was the oldest son of the late Howard and Lillian Murff of Calhoun County, MS and he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Blanche Brown Murff, one sister and five brothers.

He is survived by his daughters, Jerry Lynn (Ray) Spears and Virginia A. “Toni” (Randy) Savell, both of Sylva; son, Stephen R. (Lidie) Murff, of Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Malcolm (Dorothy) Murff, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Julia Harrison, of Derma, MS as well as many nieces and nephews.

With fresh memories of Mr. Murff’s 100th birthday party last year and with current safety concerns, no service or visitation is scheduled in North Carolina. He cherished so much the loving tribute to his life from all the many friends and family who attended that celebration.

A graveside service will be held Monday, December 21, 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada, MS.

The family requests that any memorial contributions in Randall’s name be sent to MANNA Food Bank, an organization he supported.
