Private family graveside services will be held at Waveland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren or the Prairie City EMS.
The daughter of William S. and Ethel (Smith) Charls, Eileen was born on February 16, 1924 on the family farm south of Prairie City. After high school in Prairie City, she began a teaching career in the Jasper County rural schools that ended over 30 years later when she retired from the Western Hills elementary school in West Des Moines, Iowa. She attended William Penn college and was a graduate of Drake University. In 1946, she married Warren C. Taylor. They had two sons, Dean (Dianne) and Hugh (Wanda).
After retirement from teaching, Eileen began a new career assisting several families with genealogy research. She compiled local cemetery and obituary records and was a resource for many people doing genealogy research on Prairie City area ancestors. Eileen was also instrumental in compiling a comprehensive book of the high school graduates from Prairie City, which is on the bookshelf of many native Prairie City residents.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Warren, in 1992; as well as two brothers and their wives, Cecil (Margaret) Charls and Richard (Barbara) Charls.
Those left to honor her memory include her two sons and their wives, her four grandsons: Chris, Jason (Andrea), Jon (Amy), and Adam; and five great-grandchildren: Noah, Grace, Emma, Carson and Owen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
