Obituary for Mildred L. Rogers
Mildred Rogers, age 103, of Newell passed away December 16, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell.

Private family graveside services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 in the Newell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Good Samaritan Society – Newell: 415 W Hwy 7 Newell, Iowa 50588 or the First United Methodist Church in Storm Lake: 211 E 3rd St, Storm Lake, IA 50588. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Lois Waskom was born February 8, 1917 on the family farm in Sac County, IA, to Jay Robert and Mabel (Hines) Waskom. She attended country school in Douglas Township and graduated from Delaware Township High School in Nemaha, IA in 1935. She married Dean Dwight Rogers on February 1, 1943 in Alexandria, LA. Their union was blessed with two children, Steven J. and Jeanne Louise.

Mildred was a life-long member of the Methodist faith, being baptized and confirmed at the Galbraith Methodist Episcopal Church. She was very active in the Newell Methodist Church, belonging to several of the ladies organizations and playing the organ for church.

Most of her life was spent in the Newell area, being a mother and farm wife. Shortly after she and Dean retired from farming and moved into Newell in 1975, she began working at the Newell Good Samaritan Center as a morning cook.

Her hobbies included playing the piano (which she did quite frequently while a resident at the Good Samaritan), reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, dominoes and going for walks. And she loved playing Bingo at Good Sam with her fellow residents.

Her home became a vacation destination for many out-of-state relatives. All wanted to stay with Aunt Mildred and Uncle Dean because they knew it meant good food, games, laughter and good times. She will be missed by all of them. Memories were made that will never be forgotten.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Steven (Sue) of Mountain Home, AR; daughter Jeanne Hatcher of Council Bluffs, IA; grandson James (Barbette) Hatcher III of Kansas City, MO; great-grandson Brody Hatcher of Kansas City, MO; sister Crystal Larimer of St. Louis, MO; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends; and the wonderful staff at the Newell Good Samaritan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean; sisters Evelyn Grau and Caryl 'Lucile' Schnirring.
