Joyce was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on June 2, 1957, the daughter of Theodore and May Onie (nee Butler) Shaw.
Joyce grew up in Chicago and Maywood, IL. She attended Proviso East High School and started working at the United States Postal Service at a young age. Joyce was a dedicated employee at the United States Postal Service for over 38 years. She fulfilled various roles at the River Grove and Palatine locations until her retirement in 2012.
When she was not hard at work, she enjoyed playing cards with her siblings, parents, in-laws and loved to dance. She loved spending time with her daughters, sisters and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling any and everywhere with her family. Joyce confessed her life to Christ at New M.B. Bethel Church and was baptized at Squirrel Lake in Darling, MS. Joyce later joined New Morning Star MB Church in Chicago, IL where she joined the Junior Choir.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Michael Kelly; her parents, Theodore and May Onie Shaw; her daughters, Tina Rice, Kim (Al) Cooke and Malika Kelly; stepchildren, Erica (Cedric) Augustine and Michael Kelly, Jr.; grandchildren, Carissa Charrier, Kirsta Cooke and Kristiana Cooke; step-grandchildren, C.J., Kamai, Kenzie, Kobe, Kyla and Asante; her siblings, Carolyn (RC) Danley, Theodore Shaw, Jr. and Sherry (James) Brooks. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline Shaw.
Visitation for Joyce Ann Kelly will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020, from 3:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. .
Interment will take place privately by the family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, would be appreciated.
