A salute to Captain Lambert from the Sherriff's Dept……
Grieving as an office, we announce the passing of retired Sheriff's Office Captain Thomas (Tommy) Lambert following a battle with cancer. Captain Lambert was a career law enforcement professional who retired in 2007 with 30 years of credible service. Captain Lambert started in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff in 1978. During his years of service, Lambert held the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain at the Sheriffs Office.
Promoted to Patrol Captain in 1996, Lambert is well, and at times fondly remembered for his attention to detail and meticulous expectations concerning the appearance of deputies and their patrol cars. The familiar ring of, "Evelyn", when Captain Lambert wanted to bring an issue to a deputies' attention brings a smile to the faces of all those who enjoyed serving with and working for him.
Sheriff Huffman selected Captain Lambert to lead the Sheriff's Office Detention Center expansion in 2005. In this role Captain Lambert oversaw an expansion which raised the capacity of the Catawba County Detention Facility from 89 to a detention center capable of housing 259 inmates. Lt. David Chastain offered, "It was through his leadership that each team member knew their jobs and wanted to get the expansion completed on time".
Retired Sheriff David Huffman: "I knew Tommy most of my adult life. When I became Sheriff it was like hand and glove to name Tommy to a command position. You could depend on Tommy to do the right thing. Tommy, like other officers, was like a brother to me. Most of all and the most important thing I knew where Tommy stood with his relationship with Christ".
Sheriff Don Brown: "Captain Lambert was well respected in our local law enforcement community. His legacy continues through the fine men and women who serve as deputies today".
The Catawba County Sheriff's Office and the deputies who served with Captain Lambert honor his service to the citizens of Catawba County as we mourn his passing.
