Reverend George Edward Tatum, 80, beloved of God, faithful husband, father, and friend passed away Saturday December 12, 2020 at Wayne UNC Healthcare.

Born in Bladen County on April 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Geddie Tatum and Annie Davis Tatum.

Compelled by the love of Jesus for him, Edward pursued a calling into pastoral ministry, first ordained to ministry in 1963. Blessed with a unique ability to connect with people, he served as minister in 8 churches for over 50 years, and served many years on the PFWB Ministerial Council, leaving a legacy of grace throughout eastern North Carolina. He also honorably served his country for six years in the National Guard.

Edward is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faye Woodard Tatum; son James Tatum and wife, Shyla of Raleigh; daughter, Angela Inman and husband, Tim of Dunn; grandchildren, William, Alex, and Declan; siblings, William Verdie Tatum, Rev. Curtis Tatum, Rev. Olin Tatum, and Ruth Skinner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur Tatum, twin brother Rev. Edgar Tatum, Macie Carlyle, Myrtle Denning, Ruby Owens, and Lois Broughton.

In the sure hope of resurrection, a funeral service will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton, NC, with Rev. Tim Inman and Rev. Ferrell Hardison officiating. Masks and social distancing are required. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
