Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Merle Lawrence Sr. and Merle Lawrence Jr., John Lawrence, Jerry Legel, Harold Bousman and William Foley.
He was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Thomson, Ill., to Elvie and Gertrude Chesbro Legel. He married Kay Parchen in 1961 in Thomson. He later married Carolyn Lawrence in 3 Nov 1971 in Clinton. She died in 14 Aug 2003.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was an over-the-road truck driver for 53 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorie Liggins and Bobbi Legel of Burlington; three stepchildren, Merle (Kay) Lawrence Sr., John Lawrence and Mrs. Cheryl (Mike) Harmon, all of Clinton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Beverly Noordt of Clinton; two brothers, James Legel of Clinton and Hank Legel of Fulton, Ill.; three half sisters, Roxanne Schultz of Sterling, Ill., Barb Spease of Jacksonville, Ark., and Jean Clark of Fulton; and one half brother, Jerry Legel of East Moline, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
