James Jackson Hembree, age 88, was born in 1932 in Lattimore, North Carolina, during The Great Depression. A resident of Trinity, FL, he passed away peacefully at home on 12/13/2020, surrounded by his family.

James was the son of Mamie Lee Etta McSwain and Odis Lee Hembree. An avid reader of military history, he amassed a remarkable collection of books over the years.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army between 1949 and 1971, retiring at the rank of Major with 22 years of distinguished service, including assignments in Korea, Vietnam, and Headquarters European Command. After retiring from the Army, he retired a second time as an Operations Manager for Merrill Lynch with 17 years of service.

While work was the means, his passion was his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Maude Hembree; their son Gregory James (Rosa Carolyn Weathington) of Clearwater, FL; their son David Michael (Carolyn Louise Cummings ) of Phoenix, AZ- three grandchildren Alexander, Andrew, and Zachary; his brothers Robert Eugene Hembree and Charles Griffin Hembree (Carol Howard) of Clermont, GA; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral arrangements provided by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, Palm Harbor, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in his memory to Gulfside Hospice. ATTN: Carla Armstrong, 2061 Collier Parkway, Land O’ Lakes, FL 34639. Curlew Hills FH
