"127 JACOB BARNEY, son of Joseph and Joanna (Martin) Barney, was born May 20, 1729. He married, June 6, 1753 in Rehoboth, Ruth Burr, daught of Simeon and Ruth (May) Burr of Rehoboth, who were married at Rehoboth December 31, 1724. Jacob Barney died May 10, 1757, age 28, and was buried at the Thomas cemetery in Barneyville."

"In 1756/7, guardians were appointed for Jacob Barney's minor children: Ruth Barney was granted guardianship of Chloe Barney, a child under 14 years of age, daughter of the late Jacob Barney in 1757. At the division of Jacob Barney's estate, in 1774, his widow Ruth, now wife of Daniel Whitaker shared in the estate along with his only son J
