Mary Elizabeth Deaton, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:56 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
Born June 27, 1947, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of James Arthur and Beulah (Webb) Wilcox. She married Harlan Deaton; he survives.
Mary was a 1966 graduate of McNapier High School in Hazard, Kentucky. She was employed as a DST for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville from 1974 until 2003. Mary was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Deaton of North Vernon; her son, Larry Deaton of North Vernon; her daughter, Melinda (Jeff) Galliher of North Vernon; sisters, Carol Gross of Seymour and Rosaliti (Boyce) Wright of Ring Gold, Georgia; grandchildren, Christopher Galliher and Jared Galliher, both of North Vernon, Josie (Tyler Smith) Deaton of Milan, and Willie (Blue) Deaton of Seymour; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Oaklynn Deaton, both of Seymour.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Doy and John Wilcox; and sisters, Isabelle Elliott, Davizell Sexton and Aline White.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Philip Elliott officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
