Frances Van Hecke
Funeral services for Frances Pearl Van Hecke, age 91, a resident of Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa, formerly of Bertha, were held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha with Pastor Barry Klein of the Staples Church of Christ presiding.Frances passed away on May 7 at the Lakewood Systems Hospital in Staples.
Frances was born on October 23, 1914 to Tom Gilbert and Mary Bridgett Drown at Roseau [Roseau County, MN]. Mary later married Frank Starr and he adopted Frances as his own.
Frances played violin in school and placed first in state at Worthington for orchestra. She completed high school and a year of teachers college.
She taught country schools until she was united in marriage with Delbert Tony Van Hecke on November 21, 1935 in Marshall. Together, they moved their family to a farm southwest of Hewitt in 1952. In 1987, Frances and Delbert moved into the Horizon Manor in Bertha.
Frances served her community teaching Sunday School for two years in Tracy and later for many years at the Staples Church of Christ. She enjoyed puzzles and playing bingo. She also enjoyed crocheting and had just finished a baby blanket for her 11 great-grandchild due in August 2006.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert on April 4, 1989; father, Thomas Gilbert; mother and step-father, Mary and Frank Starr; and sisters, June Dahl and Blendina Hanson.
Frances is survived by her son, Delbert F. (Diane) of Coon Rapids; daughters, Marlys (Tom) Fay of Bellingham, Washington and Mary Ann VanHecke of Staples; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Jenny Anderson, Will Judd, Samantha Judd and Trisha Van Hecke.
Pallbearers were Travis Van Hecke, Dennis Judd, Brandon Fay, Ken Judd, Jerry Judd and Greg Anderson.
Interment was held at the Riverside Cemetery in Moran Township, Todd County, MN.
