Patricia “Ann” Autrey Hawkins was born in Redwater, Texas to Ottis and Hollis Autrey on July 22, 1938.  She entered Heaven’s gates on December 13, 2020 in her home in Pasadena, Texas after 16 years of Alzheimer’s.

Ann was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life Sam W. Hawkins on August 19, 1961. They had two children and eight grandchildren.  Her husband Sam, of 52 years, preceded her in death in July 2013. Ann is survived by her son Malcolm Hawkins, and wife Tonya, daughter Melissa Hawkins Pierce, and husband Larry. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Coleman Pierce, Samantha Pierce, Taylor Pierce, Tyler Pierce, Jack Hawkins, Annie Hawkins, Austin Mathis and Emily Mathis.

Ann was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She loved to cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. In her pastime she collected cookbooks from different places where she and Sam traveled. Her family and friends were everything to Ann. She was always hosting social gatherings or having her bridge group at her house.  She was especially proud of her grandchildren and would drop everything to jump at the chance to spend time with them or tend to any need they had.

Ann had an unwavering faith in God and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Pasadena.  She was her children’s Sunday School teacher and UMYF leader.  She helped serve food for any function the church needed. She was a part of a ministry that made hand sewn prayer blankets for patients leaving the hospital.  She wanted “every single lap covered in prayers”.  She always put others before herself, believing that by serving others she was serving the Lord.  Her devotion to God was life long, unshakable, and had no limits.

Ann was an elementary school teacher for 38 years with Pasadena Independent School District.  She loved her job and every student.  She went the extra mile to make sure every child had what they needed each day, even if she had to pay for it herself. Ann retired officially in 1995, but never really retired, as she continued to teach her grandchildren about many subjects and help with their homework any time she could.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the loving caregivers that cared for her over the 16 years she was ill.  She had the best care, was loved by them all, and we could not have done this without them. Our gratitude for the love and patience they showed cannot be repaid.  Saying thank you falls short.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00pm., Thursday, December 17, at  First Baptist Church Pasadena Chapel,  7500 Fairmont Parkway Pasadena, TX  77505. Interment will be held Friday, December 18, in Kirbyville, Texas. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Sam.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a tribute donation to be made in her name (Patricia Ann Hawkins) with the Alzheimer’s Association. Alzheimer’s Association www.act.alz.org
